Frequently Asked Questions

1.  What are your hours?   We operate by an appointment only business plan because we are frequently taking buying trips to maintain our inventory.  We also want to offer an uninterrupted secure environment for our customers transporting material of high value to and from our location.

2. Who are the staff of Rare Coins of Raleigh?   Dr. John Yancho, Richard Thorne and Operations Manager Stacy Silvers.

3.  What are your company policies?  All coins subject to prior sale, please contact us to confirm.  Trade-ins welcome.  Higher valued items kept in bank safety deposit box with on site viewing by appointment. We are not responsible for any items left here more than 30 days!

4.  What are my coins worth?  A coin's value is not based on age but on the supply and demand level for that specific date and mint mark in a particular condition.  Since there are many other factors that determine a coin's condition it's impossible to accurately appraise your coins over the phone or by email.  Contact us so we can make a convenient appointment to review, appraise, or purchase your coin collection.

5.   How can I clean my coins?  Don't clean them!  In the coin business original coins are preferred over cleaned coins.  Cleaning the coin, particularly improperly,  will typically add another flaw.   Once a coin has been cleaned, it's irreversible and the coin will never be original again.

7.  What's the most popular book to find out the value of my coins?  The red book by Whitman.
